Purchasing insurance:

Most of the time if you use your credit card to book the rental car or have personal car insurance, you may be covered at least for collision damage, so you may not need the retail car companies added insurance plans. Always check with your credit card company and personal insurance agent before deciding.

Filling up the tank:

When you pick up your rental usually the salesperson will offer you to pre-pay for gas to have them fill it up when you bring back. This will ultimately cost you more money than just filling it up yourself before you return it. Be sure to find a gas station near the airport to refill.

Avoiding extra charges:

Be sure to bring the rental car back at the time you appointed with the company before hand. Bringing the car back late (or even early) can sometimes be a costly change of plans.
